Spondon, Sinfin, Alvaston, Pride Park — east Derby is full of Transporters working for a living, and the T6 2.0 TDI 150 is the one we remap most. The brief from a tradesperson is always the same and always practical: it's gutless when it's loaded, it drops a gear on every A52 incline, and the fuel bill is painful. Here's how a Stage 1 on a T6 150 actually runs at a Spondon yard, what changes, and what it costs — no fluff.
The van: T6 2.0 TDI 150 (EA288), manual
VW sells the same 2.0 TDI in 102, 150 and 204 PS flavours. The 150 shares its turbo, injectors and block with the 204 twin-turbo's single-turbo sibling and is throttled almost entirely in software. Stock is 150 bhp and 340 Nm — fine empty, miserable with a tonne of tools and a trailer. The 6-speed manual is strong; the DQ500 DSG on auto vans is stronger still.
Fixed quote from the reg
Send the registration by WhatsApp and we confirm engine code, ECU (EDC17C74 or MD1CS004), Euro 5 or Euro 6 with AdBlue, and the price. For a T6 150 in Derby that's £300–£375 fixed. Fleet of three or more at one yard? Ask about fleet pricing — we regularly map several vans in one morning.
On site: the pre-map checks that matter on a working van
A van that's done 90,000 miles of short hops around Derby has a different risk profile to a weekend car, so the health check is thorough: DPF soot and ash load and regen history (short-journey vans are the classic blocked-DPF candidates), EGR cooler and intake carbon, AdBlue system faults on Euro 6 vans, turbo actuator and boost hold on the baseline log, and dual-mass flywheel behaviour on the test loop. If the DPF is already loading we'll say so and sort that first — remapping a van with a dying DPF just brings the bill forward.
Original file archived, Stage 1 written
The factory file is read and stored against the VIN, then the Stage 1 goes on: boost and VNT control raised, rail pressure and injection re-scaled, per-gear torque limiters lifted so the van pulls properly when loaded, smoke correction tuned for cleaner regens, and a sharper pedal map off idle. DPF, EGR and AdBlue remain fully functional — this is a road-legal calibration for a vehicle that has to earn its keep and pass its MOT.
The logged verification drive — loaded, where possible
We'd rather test a van the way it's used. If it's got the day's load in the back, even better. A typical Spondon loop is out along the A52 towards Borrowash and back via Raynesway, logging boost, fuel trims, EGTs and clutch behaviour. The owner sees the before/after side by side on the laptop before we pack up.
The result on a T6 150
Typical Stage 1 on this platform: around 190 bhp and 410 Nm, up from 150 and 340 — that's 70 Nm extra arriving from about 1,600 rpm, which is exactly where a loaded van lives. On the road it means the A52 inclines stay in sixth, roundabout exits don't need third, and towing stops being a two-gears-down affair. On MPG, most T6 owners report 2–4 mpg better on a mixed working week because the van no longer needs revving to make progress. Indicative platform figures; your van is logged individually and the numbers are shown to you on the day.
DSG vans: add the TCU calibration
If your T6 is a DSG, the DQ500 TCU calibration is worth having with the engine map — faster shifts, higher torque limit, better kickdown and no clamping of the new torque curve. Same visit, about 45 minutes extra, quoted separately.
Price in Derby, all in
Stage 1 engine remap on a T6 150: £300–£375 fixed, including the health check, archived original file, logged verification drive and 30-day warranty. Driveway or yard time: 60–90 minutes. Same price across Spondon, Sinfin, Alvaston, Chaddesden, Oakwood, Chellaston, Mickleover and every DE postcode — no travel charge.
Warranty, insurance and lease vans
Tell your insurer — commercial van policies generally accept a Stage 1 with a small adjustment. If the van is on a lease or still under VW warranty, we'll talk you through returning it to stock before a dealer visit or hand-back; that's exactly why the original file is archived. If the van isn't yours, you'll need the owner's consent before we book.
