DPF Cleaning & Regeneration
Blocked DPF? Fixed on your driveway — road-legal, filter kept.
A DPF warning light, limp mode and a 'see handbook' message usually mean one thing: the filter is full of soot and the car can't regenerate it on its own. We come to you anywhere in Nottingham, Derby or the East Midlands, diagnose why it stopped regenerating, clean the filter on the vehicle and fix the cause — so it stays clear. Road-legal, filter kept, usually same or next day.
Why your DPF has blocked
A diesel particulate filter traps soot and burns it off during a 'regeneration' — a 15–25 minute spell at motorway speed with the exhaust above ~600°C. Short Nottingham and Derby school-run, ring-road and city-centre journeys never get there, so soot keeps building until the ECU gives up and limits power. Blocking is also triggered by a faulty differential-pressure sensor, a stuck EGR valve, a lazy thermostat, a failing glow plug or injector, or oil dilution from repeated aborted regens. Cleaning the filter without finding that cause just means it blocks again in a month.
What a mobile DPF clean involves
1) Full-system scan and live-data read of soot load, ash load, differential pressure, exhaust temperatures and regen history. 2) Sensor and plumbing check — pressure pipes, DPF temperature sensors and the pressure sensor itself are the usual culprits. 3) Forced (service) regeneration under controlled conditions, monitored live, where the filter is recoverable. 4) Where soot is too high for a regen alone, an on-vehicle cleaning treatment introduced through the pressure-sensor port before the regen. 5) Post-clean verification: soot load re-read, pressure differential logged, light cleared only once the data is right. 6) Honest advice on the root cause, with a fixed quote for any part needed.
DPF cleaning vs DPF removal
Removing or disabling a DPF on a road-going vehicle is illegal in the UK, an automatic MOT failure, and leaves you exposed. Cleaning keeps the filter, keeps the car legal and — done properly — restores the car to how it drove before the light came on. Nine times out of ten a blocked DPF is recoverable. We'll tell you clearly if yours is the tenth (cracked substrate, melted core or ash-full from 150,000+ miles), and what the honest options are from there.
Common DPF fault codes we fix
P2002 / P2003 (DPF efficiency below threshold), P2463 (soot accumulation), P242F (ash accumulation), P2452 / P2453 / P2454 (differential pressure sensor), P0471 / P0472 (exhaust pressure sensor), P2031 / P2033 (exhaust temperature sensors), P244A / P244B, and the Ford, VAG, BMW, Mercedes, PSA and Renault/Nissan manufacturer-specific equivalents. Limp mode, 'engine system fault', 'DPF full — see handbook' and the orange filter light all land in the same bucket.
Cars and vans we clean most in Nottingham & Derby
VW Golf, Passat and Tiguan 1.6/2.0 TDI, Audi A3/A4, Ford Focus, Kuga, Transit and Transit Custom (1.5/2.0 TDCi & EcoBlue), Nissan Qashqai and Juke 1.5 dCi, Vauxhall Astra, Insignia and Vivaro CDTi, Peugeot/Citroën 1.6 HDi and BlueHDi, BMW 1/3/5 Series diesels, Mercedes A/C/E 220d, VW Transporter and Caddy, Mini Cooper D. Short-journey vans and school-run diesels are the classic cases.
After the clean: keeping it clear
We'll give you plain advice tailored to your car — typically a 20-minute A52/A38/M1 run every fortnight in a lower gear, the right low-SAPS oil at service time, and fixing any slow-burning cause (thermostat, EGR, injector) rather than living with it. If the car is a short-journey diesel by nature, a road-legal Stage 1 remap that runs cleaner can also help the DPF regenerate more reliably — we'll only suggest it if it genuinely fits.

DPF Cleaning & Regeneration · FAQ
A forced regeneration with live-data verification is from £120. A full DPF diagnostic including sensor and pressure-system checks is from £180, with the regen or on-vehicle clean included where the filter is recoverable. Any parts are quoted separately before fitting. No call-out charge.
Often, yes — DPF jobs are urgent by nature and we keep same/next-day slots across Nottingham and Derby. WhatsApp the reg and the warning you're seeing.
A solid orange light with normal power: drive gently and get it looked at within a few days. Flashing light, limp mode or a red warning: avoid driving — repeated aborted regens dilute the oil and can damage the turbo.
No. Everything is done on the vehicle at your home or work. Off-car cleaning is only needed for ash-full or damaged filters, and we'll tell you honestly if that's the case.
Not if the cause is fixed. That's why we diagnose first — a clean on its own is a temporary fix if a sensor, EGR or thermostat is the real problem.
Yes — vans are our most common DPF job. We can do several vans in one visit; ask about fleet pricing.
Yes. Cleaning keeps the vehicle legal, MOT-passable and insurable, and restores the drive. Removal on a road car is illegal and an MOT failure.
